Guide to tyre alignment
Being in the tyre industry we make it our business to know everything that there is to know about tyres. We are able to advise you on every aspect of tyre safety, specification and suitability. We stock a wide range of tyres to suit all budgets, and can supply and fit them on our premises or we can alternatively do it mobile.
Here, we’ve teamed up with the experts at Michelin to bring you a guide to alignment.
How can i tell if my wheels are not misaligned?
Abnormal wear on your tyres is more times than not an indication of a mechanical issue with your vehicle. This can be an incorrect alignment or issue with the steering or suspension mechanism. Misalignment in the vehicles suspension can lead to fast, irregular wear on the tyres that can result in problems that are expensive to rectify. This would also effect the handling and safety of your vehicle. If you realise any irregular wear on your tyres you should get this checked by a professional as soon as possible.
Our staff are experts in checking and correcting misalignment.
What if my wheels are misaligned?
A misalignment of the suspension even by only 4mm (2mm per wheel) forces the tyre sideways by the equivalent of 8.4 metre (28 feet) on a car with 15″ wheels. This then also causes extreme shoulder wear on the tyres. Ensuring your wheels are correctly aligned can add thousands of miles yo the life span of your tyres. It also helps increase fuel efficiency by reducing roll resistance.
